Proper Application of Pratt & Lambert Accolade Paint

Before you begin painting with Accolade it is important that you consider all relevant issues that may affect your paint job and ensure that you follow the correct surface preparation guidelines to avoid a coating failure.

Important Factors to Consider Prior to Painting

Surface Preparation

Accolade 100% Acrylic Latex Finishes have been altered using a chemistry known as rheology modifiers. This modification gives them the characteristic so coveted in Accolade - which is that the final product looks and feels like an alkyd finish - but it's really a latex finish! Accolade's washability, scrubability, mar resistance, colour fastness, and beautiful sheens are all a result of Accolade's advanced chemistry.

Applying Accolade

  1. Accolade should be applied using a Purdy Roller Sleeve appropriate to the finish and substrate. Walls Alive usually recommends the 3/8" nap. You will require a cage frame and roller tray for rolling the paint onto the wall.

  2. A two inch Purdy Nylo-Glen Plus brush will be perfect for cutting in your trim. Other desirable brushes for the trim work are the Purdy XL Glide, the Wooster Advantage, or the AllPro Stealth.

  3. A team work approach will always work best when applying Accolade. Find yourself a partner to give you a hand to make the job as efficient as possible. One person should paint the trim and the other will roll out the Accolade onto the wall before the trim has a chance to dry.

  4. The optimum roller application of Accolade will occur in three roller width panels. Start by having your partner trim into the corner, ceiling and baseboard. Roll quickly onto the wall filling in a three roller width section. You will need to reload your roller in order to apply enough paint to each three roller width section. It is best to be liberal with the paint when loading the roller and applying the paint to the walls.

  5. Even out the first panel by running your roller lightly from ceiling to floor in one gentle stroke. Repeat that gentle ceiling to floor stroke from left to right and then move on to your next three roller width section leaving this completed section to dry. Try to ensure you get as close to the margins of your trim as possible to avoid 'Picture Framing' on your walls.

  6. Repeat this three panel process across the wall surface, moving left to right across the room. Do this by starting away from the first panel and working your material back into the first panel. When finishing off the panel slightly overlap back into your last panel ensuring you are always working to a wet edge.
